Overview

The loco pilot cycle reaches its first computer-based test in November.

CEN 01/2026 covers 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilot posts at Level 2 across the Railway Recruitment Boards. Applications ran from 15 May to 14 June 2026, and the first computer-based test is scheduled for 3, 4 and 5 November 2026.

Candidates shortlisted from CBT-1 sit CBT-2, which has a general section and a trade-specific section, followed by a computer-based aptitude test for the loco pilot role and then document verification and a medical examination. Medical fitness standards for ALP are strict, particularly for vision.

Eligibility

Class 10 with a trade qualification.

The post needs Class 10 (matriculation) plus an ITI certificate in a relevant trade, or a diploma or degree in engineering, as set out in CEN 01/2026. Age limits, relaxations and the trade list are in the CEN itself.
