Overview

6,557 Technician posts, with the CBT in October 2026.

Under CEN 02/2026, Railway Recruitment Boards are filling 6,557 Technician posts: 323 as Technician Grade-I Signal at Pay Level 5, and 6,234 across the Technician Grade-III trades at Pay Level 2.

Applications closed on 29 July 2026. The computer-based test is scheduled for 6 to 9 October 2026, so for anyone who applied, this is now revision time.

CBT: 6 – 9 October 2026

Exam city intimation slips and e-call letters are released on the RRB websites shortly before the exam. Check the website of the RRB you applied through.

Eligibility

Age on 1 July 2026, and qualification by the closing date.

Age limit (as on 1 July 2026)

Relaxation in the upper age limit applies to reserved categories and others as listed in the notice.

Educational qualification

  • Technician Grade-III: Class 10 with an ITI in the relevant trade, or a course-completed Act Apprenticeship. The trade required for each post is listed in Annexure A.
  • An engineering diploma or degree is not accepted in place of the ITI or Act Apprenticeship for the Level 2 Technician posts, unless the notice says otherwise for a particular post.
  • Technician Grade-I Signal: the qualification prescribed in Annexure A — a B.Sc. or an engineering diploma or degree in a relevant field.
  • Qualifications had to be held by 29 July 2026, the closing date.

Application fee

Mostly refunded if you sit the CBT.

Refunds are paid only to candidates who actually appear in the CBT, less bank charges. The fee is charged separately for each pay level applied for.

EBC is not OBC or EWS

The ₹250 concession for Economically Backward Class is its own category. The notice warns candidates not to confuse it with OBC, with EWS, or with the Extremely Backward Class certificates some state governments issue.

Exam pattern

One computer-based test per grade.

Each grade sits a single computer-based test of 100 objective questions in 90 minutes. The weighting of subjects differs between Grade-I Signal and Grade-III, so prepare from the syllabus in the notice for the grade you applied for.

Negative marking

One-third of a mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Three wrong guesses wipe out a correct answer.
