The Junior Engineer Examination recruits engineers for central government organisations such as CPWD, MES, BRO and the Central Water Commission. From 2026 the same examination also recruits Scientific Assistants for the India Meteorological Department. All posts are Group B at Level 6 of the pay matrix (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400).
SSC published the notice on 2 September 2026 with 1,748 tentative vacancies. Applications close at 11 PM on 22 September 2026.
Paper-I no longer counts towards merit
Paper-I only shortlists candidates for Paper-II. Final merit is decided by normalised Paper-II marks alone, so the engineering paper matters far more than the general sections.
